In the class Introduction to Website Development - IS 117, I was able to learn how to create a website using AFS and git hub. Personally, I had a lot of struggles with understanding the concepts and activities since I was new to a lot of things computers related. I overcame my fear of trying to do something that I do not understand by pushing myself further. In the beginning of the semester I knew nothing about how the internet was made and how it works.
Now at the end of the semester I understand how a website can be up and running, how the internet operates to communicate with our devices and servers and how information transferred on the internet through protocols called packets. I understand why the internet is going through exponential growth and will be ever growing and expanding as more and more people use it. I know what Docker is and what containerization is and how to use it to maximize my productivity.
In the past, I have moved around a lot and I have spent two years in a Korean school which was a specialized high school of design. The school was called Incheon Design School. I made it to the graphic design department and learned how to use adobe programs and learn about principles of design and developed my artistic skills as well. Even if it was only two years, I think it helped me a lot even in everyday life to put together small project or image for something, it’s always been a big help to have skill sets like that. This is also why I picked Computer Science as my major as well since I know that these technical skills will be a big help in life and I can use that skills to do whatever that I may desire in the future.
Starting little from making links that connects website to other pages in the documents, I was able to write codes and build a website with help of bootstrap and other sources such as stack overflow. From looking at many examples and trying new things I gradually grasped understanding of how to use html and css to manipulate components and elements to my liking and craft the webpage to what I think is the most appealing and insightful to look at.
I know that my skills are not quite there yet, and I still have a lot to learn about the subject and the field of computer science. Afterall, this is my first year at NJIT and my first semester on top of that. I think the goal for this course, intro to web development has been met for me for it showed me a whole new aspect of the world of new information and skills that’s very crucial to live in today’s modern world of technology. I am planning to learn a lot more about this subject and improve my skills on web developing. I am quite interested now about the internet and the information I am going to be learning in the future.
